Crib and toddler bed sheet pattern

Well, I've always told my children that there are only two reasons to sew. The first reason is to create that one-of-a-kind look that nobody else has. The second reason is save money. Along time ago, I decided the stores were charging too much for crib sheets made from cheap material and I knew I could do better. I came up with this pattern for making crib sheets. My measurements are exact and results in a perfectly fitted crib sheet. I went to the fabric store and bought some fabric on sale and made some of the most cute and original crib sheets ever.

Materials you will need:

2 yard fabric for fitted sheet
3/8 inch elastic, about a yard
Thread to match

Tools you will use:

Sewing Machine
Scissors
Measuring Device (tape measure, ruler, yardstick)

Tools that will make your job easier:

Quilter’s Mat
Rotary Cutter
Quilter’s Ruler

Step 1:
First, cut your materials.

  • For the fitted sheet, trim away selvage from the long edges. Cut material so that it is 68 inches long.

Step 2:

FOR A FITTED SHEET: Cut away an 8 inch corner from each or the 4 corners.

Step 3:

Make a narrow hem along the four sides of the sheet. Do this by folding over ¼ inch of the raw edge, and then fold it again.

Step 4:

For each corner, bring raw edges together and sew. Zigzag to prevent fraying.

Step 5:

Cut four pieces of elastic 9 inches long. Measure out and mark 8 inches away from each corner seam, along the hem. Begin sewing elastic along edge. After you have backstitched the elastic the hem (to anchor the elastic), begin stretching elastic firmly and sew the elastic along the hemline stretching as you sew along. Do this around each of the four corners.

Your fitted sheet is finished.
